Estimated Starting Price of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV: $52,000

Overview

Presenting the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, a distinctive electric pickup truck that offers a more classic design compared to its counterpart, the GMC Hummer EV. Featuring an available midgate design, users have the option to fold down the wall between the bed and the cab, providing additional storage space reminiscent of the discontinued Avalanche pickup truck from the early 2000s.

Equipped with a large battery pack, the Silverado EV is expected to deliver up to 450 miles of range per charge. Notably, its DC fast-charging technology enables the battery to gain 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. With dual electric motors providing standard all-wheel drive, the Silverado EV boasts a powerful performance of up to 754 horsepower. It is capable of towing up to 10,000 pounds and carrying a payload of up to 1440 pounds.

While the Silverado EV offers impressive features, it faces tough competition from other electric pickup trucks such as the Ford F-150 Lightning, as well as emerging contenders like the Rivian R1T and the Tesla Cybertruck.

What’s New for 2024?

The Silverado EV is set to be released to customers in 2023 as a 2024 model year vehicle. The initial rollout will prioritize the fleet-specific 4WT Work Truck variant, with consumer-oriented trims to follow.

During its initial launch, the Silverado EV will be available in three trims: the price-leader Work Truck (4WT), the off-road-oriented Trail Boss, and the fully-loaded RST trim. Chevrolet has announced that it will introduce mid-range trims at a later time to ensure a comprehensive lineup.

It is worth noting that the Work Truck (4WT) model may lack some of the truck’s most desirable features. Therefore, aiming for the Trail Boss or RST trims would be recommended to access a broader range of advanced features. Alternatively, waiting for the release of a well-equipped mid-range trim could provide a desirable balance of features and value.

EV Motor, Performance and Power

While the Hummer EV provides the option of equipping up to three electric motors, the Silverado EV will come equipped with a two-motor configuration. Chevrolet claims a horsepower rating of up to 754 hp, while the base WT trim offers 510 hp. All-wheel drive comes as standard, and optional features include a rear-wheel steering system, an adaptive air suspension, and the availability of 24-inch wheels that add to the truck’s impressive aesthetic appeal.

The Trail Boss model is likely to enhance the Silverado EV’s capabilities for off-road adventures by incorporating features such as:

  • locking differentials
  • rugged all-terrain tires
  • other off-road-ready components into the suspension.

During our test drive of the 4WT model, we were impressed by its swift acceleration. According to estimation that it can reach 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds. The truck offers a smooth ride, and its handling is commendable for a vehicle of its size. Exhibiting precise maneuverability and confidence-inspiring braking capabilities.
