Details Revealed About Towing Capacity and Configurations of the 2024 Ford Maverick

The 2024 Ford Maverick allows for truck-related tasks, albeit with certain limitations, which can be overcome by paying an additional cost.

  • With ambitious aspirations, the 2024 Ford Maverick proves that size doesn’t limit its capabilities. When appropriately equipped, this compact pickup can tow up to 4000 pounds, impressing users who appreciate its towing power.
  • However, it is worth noting that most Maverick configurations have a towing capacity of only 2000 pounds. To fully harness the trailer-towing potential, it requires all-wheel drive (AWD) and Ford’s 4K Tow package.
  • While competitors like the Hyundai Santa Cruz can tow up to 5000 pounds. It’s important to recognize that we don’t necessarily need to engage in a towing arms race in the realm of small trucks. Let the small trucks embrace their intended purpose without the pressure to match larger towing capacities.

When Ford introduced the appropriately sized Maverick pickup in late 2021, it was no surprise that it became a hit. Despite their smaller dimensions, owners of small trucks still desire the ability to tackle tasks typically associated with larger trucks, and the Maverick seems to deliver on that front.

During our initial test drive of the 2022 Maverick, we discovered that it strikes a good balance as “just enough truck.” Its unibody design, shared with the Hyundai Santa Cruz, offers a practical blend of size and capability. The 2023 model introduced the optional Tremor Off-Road package, along with minor updates like new exterior paint colors. Engine options include a 191-horsepower 2.5-liter hybrid engine and a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo engine. Starting from 2024, the 2.0-liter engine becomes the standard choice. Moreover, the hybrid variant becomes an optional upgrade priced at $1500.

While the 2024 Maverick boasts a maximum towing capacity of 4000 pounds. The Tremor package, for instance, can only tow up to 2000 pounds. Moreover, the lower towing capacity is imposed on any Maverick that is equipped with the newly introduced 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain. Even the 2.0-liter engine can reach the higher towing capacity. But only with the optional 4000-pound Tow package ($745) and all-wheel drive ($2220). Therefore, while the Maverick starts at a base price of $24,995 for the XL trim, acquiring a truck capable of towing 4000 pounds requires an expenditure of at least $27,690.
